For artist Danielle O’Hara, even though romance is nonexistent and her art career has nearly stagnated, she is reasonably content with her circumstances. Then, when she is nearly sixty years old, the greatest adventure of her life begins.
Danielle leaves her Colorado home to attend her first major solo art exhibit in London. While roaming through a street market, Danielle catches sight of her first and only true love, Molly, who had left Colorado and their relationship thirty years earlier.
Danielle never accepted Molly’s explanation that the reason their relationship had dissolved was Danielle’s compulsion to paint. Although the art world has provided Danielle only minimal recognition, an undying belief in herself has kept her moving forward.
Her encounter with Molly forces Danielle to revisit the past and to confront an uncertain future. In addition to finding Molly again after three decades, she meets Bethany Cortland, a beguiling, confident woman, who is all that Danielle desires in a woman – everything, that is, except that she’s not Molly.
The London journey takes Danielle on a trip to the interior of her heart, a place where previously, only her art had been allowed. Now, against her will, she discovers that love and professional success have their own agendas and timetables.

Appointment with a Smile edition by Kieran York Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I read Kieran's book when it first arrived back in April 2012. Once the cover was cracked open - yes, I still prefer print - I read it in one sitting. Kieran had made a comment in one of her Facebook posts that "a whole bunch of my heart is in it". That clearly came through on the pages of this book. She surrounded Danielle with an outstanding cast of characters that added levity to the situation of meeting Molly after 30 years. And putting the setting of this story in England was a positive so we could enjoy the scenery and British humor. An excellent read. I had sent these comments to Kieran back in April on her Facebook account but wanted to post them here also. Many Lesfic fans have been asking for romances involving older individuals. Well here you go.
Thank you Kieran for your words - and my new discovery that you are quite the poet which further explains how you can draw us in.
Looking forward to your next book.
Excellent read. I've read all of Kieran York's novels and each one is better than the last. This had some twists and turns that were unexpected. I can't wait for whatever she writes next. I'll be first in line to get it !
Lovely treatment of issues facing older lesbians. Romantic, very "feminine." Lotsa descriptions of food and fashion.
This is the story of Danielle who at 60 is at a crossroads in her life. She is in London for her first one woman art show and shortly after her arrival bumps into Molly, the woman she has been holding a torch for for thirty years. Her friend Esther flies to London from Colorado to lend her support and to urge Danielle to finally move on with her life. Her agent Fiona is there to encourage Danielle as she channels her feelings and creates the finest work in her long career.
With the help of her friend Esther our protagonist is introduced to Bethany who is everything Danielle can hope to find in a woman. Someone who can understand the hurt and hope that binds Danielle to her past but who is strong and loving enough to push her toward a future she is not able to imagine.
Danielle is now faced with all the emotions that have been dormant everywhere in her life except for her art for the last three decades. How Danielle and the women who surround her in London for the two week time span of the story handle the events from the past and present and all Danielle's emotions make for a great read.
Ms. York wrote a unique book dealing with women who have passed the blush of youth but remain sharp, vibrant and sexual. (The kind of women we can all aspire to be.) There is no explicit sex but there is a lot of emotion and caring.
I know that this is a book that I will read again.
I loved this book!
It breaks the rules a bit by being a romance with women over the age of fifty and I for one love that ; )
But it's Kieran's use of language and phrasing that I enjoyed the most ! There honestly is a poetic artistry in the way Kieran York writes that I love !
If you like Art and Romance and Paris... You will love this story.
Oh and by the way the supporting cast is a hoot, too !
Long lost loves, the one that got away, avoiding the possibility of new love out of fear... This story has is all and more.
Imagery so vivid, one is in the room watching as painting are created, streets of London wandered and fun, fabulous meals shared among friends. A heart may break, but if allowed and given the chance, that heart can heal and grow.
May we all have our own cast of friends in our Ladybug Rocks group. We need them.
This is the first book I've read of Kieran York and I'm very glad I bought the book. It is written with a lot of feeling and a lot of details. De dialogues with Esther, that was awesome. But what touched me most were the encounters, the love and the loss. That the story is about older women makes it even more attractive for me. It has left a big impression on me. This is definitely not my last book of her.
